That's a good point about the breakables. Also, early in your packing you'll have more clothes/soft stuff to pack them with. I've found that clothes are a better packing material than anything else for china, as long as you use a sturdy box and pack the box tightly (which takes a lot of clothes!)
I think the sticker method with the rooms makes a lot of sense for people moving into a house or large apartment. In my case my apartment's not small but it's basically two rooms and a bathroom, so everything just went to the living room and then got unpacked from there. I know folks who've moved into a big house though and that room coding thing was crucial.
